I had to switch agendas though, because the constant jumping up was too much and interfering with the lesson. So what started as an attention exercise turned into a stop jumping session. I was still pretty happy with it. Again I want to point out how good training (even with food) can induce a calmer state by making the the dog think. ... I recently saw a video where the trainer was using a lot of the same elements I use to build attention while walking, but he rearranged them in a way that made sense to me. He wasn't exactly teaching the same thing I'm teaching here, but it was pretty easy to see how I could use his arrangement to inform mine. The big difference was that he spent a lot more time practicing what I call "Follow me Front" and less time doing "Follow me Side" early on. So I had a dog starting yesterday, and I figured I'd give it a go. Worked really well. So hat tip to Darwin's Dog Training for the assist. Anyway, here's how it went, I couldn't be happier! ...
