I feel like I owe y'all an explanation...January 14ArticleJanuary 14Public 0 0Anchor Chain Oxalic Acid Fail - Too Far Gone! :-(Yep, you read right, the chain is stuffed. After abusing it dropping it from a bridge onto concrete to flake off the worst of the rust, I stuck it in an acid bath and it became clear there wasn't any way that chain was going to be safe. Oh well. I'll have to buy some.ArticleDec 10, 2025Public 0 0Used Spade S140 Anchor "restoration" complete! :-)Good enough for now - I'll be doing some anchor experiments later anyway so may end up with a different one before corrosion becomes an issue again. For now it will look good until it gets some abuse and then it'll look used. No worries :-) Once the tape comes off it'll look very much like a new one :-)ArticleDec 7, 2025Public 0 0Project Outdoor Work Area: Part 22 :-)Skipped a bit, but we had some epic rain yesterday that put the drainage to the test - and inside and under the deck it passed with flying colours, however outside some loose number 3 sand and fine scoria was displaced due to the small river flowing past from above and from under the house through the land. I'll have to do a better job of this small section digging it up and laying drainage metal down so it can flow through below grade. Neat to see though.Imageyesterday at Aug 16 crawlPublic 0 0Tidied up Spade S140 un-galv anchor tested, straightened, and primed! :-)The cheap used anchor with a high retail price is tidy and back looking good again. I straightened the small issues with the shank and removed all the corrosion and even laid a bit of fresh lead into some of the cavities and crevices left by lead oxidation over time. Looking forward to putting it on the boat and giving it a first test in some mud bottomed easy anchorage :-)ArticleDec 1, 2025Public 0 0New $2600nz anchor for the boat: $80nz used/abused S140 Spade :-)Nov 24, 2025ArticleNov 24, 2025Public 0 0Auckland City view from Mount Eden - a wonderful day off! :-)My wife and I had a lovely morning including some wine tasting - so we went for a long walk and explore to metabolise the alcohol sufficiently for me to drive us home a few hours later. What a view - enjoy :-)ArticleNov 24, 2025Public 0 0Auckland Wellington Road Trip in Volvo 960 Wagon - 1752km Adventure!I had a few reasons to head down to Wellington for a few days and a few people to see and have a wine with along the way - so I picked a car from the fleet and off I went. Zero issues, good conditions, and a great time had! This small selection of shorts is what I filmed as it made sense and uploaded in the evening the while on the road :-)ArticleNov 22, 2025Public 0 0One Ocean Protest Auckland - trying to protect culture and environment.https://www.tiktok.com/@fredsshed.nz/video/7575459546626362644VideoToday at Aug 16 crawlPublic 0 0Project Dry Leak-free Garage: Part 5 :-)In this vid we're looking at the PVC water shield and drainage coil and sand covering. Not much to do after this, just fill it with metal after laying some geotextile on the dirt side, and that's it. Or so I thought. Turns out that wasn't the best plan but more on that in a future vid. As I type this heavy rain has passed through a few times and no water in the garage - however dampness around where the drainage exits proving its doing its job :-)ImageNov 19, 2025Public 0 0Pavers laid along the fence line in front of my 1000L IBC water tank! :-)https://www.tiktok.com/@fredsshed.nz/video/7573231148420189460VideoNov 16, 2025Public 0 0
