Early Video ReleaseJun 18, 2025 View post Okay, buckle up! This is a wild one. My community challenged me for my 100th video, and I have NO idea what I'm building! You read that right. For my 100th video here on Byte Sized Engineering, I decided to throw planning out the window and do something a little different. I just finished building this game, which I'm calling Pixel Ball, but when I started, let me tell you, I was staring at a pile of parts thinking, "What do I… what am I doing here? Like, what is this going to be? I am just not seeing the vision at all." That's because I asked you, the amazing Byte Sized Engineering community, to decide on a project for me.VideoJun 18, 2025Public 0 0Early VideoView post I feel like I need to admit something to you. I've dropped the ball on keeping track of how tall my kids are. Most people will draw little lines on a door frame. But I haven't been able to do that because I've moved around a lot. So I decided that I'm going to build a growth chart. And since this is byte sized engineering, it can't be just any growth chart! This growth chart needs to automatically measure the height of my children and record that information in a spreadsheet. And this is for my kids so it's got to be fun. So then I got to thinking, do you know who else wants to watch my kids grow up? Their grandparents! So how can I share this experience with them? Let's see if IVideo7d agoPublic 0 0Building a blast gate that opens when I turn on my toolsI have a problem. Sawdust. It is everywhere. That’s why I recently used some off the shelf smart switches to automate my dust collection system. When I turn on a tool, my dust collector also turns on! This is a great start but I'm still missing something. I need to install some PVC pipe around the different areas around my shop, and I need blast gates to control the flow of air. But ordinary blast gates won’t do. No, I need automated blast gates!ImageNov 7, 2024Public 0 0Let's celebrate 100 videos together!I wanted to do something different and celebrate my upcoming 100th YouTube video (at least by my count) with all the byte sized engineering ...VideoOct 17, 2024$2 tier & up 0 0Shop Dust Collection AutomationAug 28, 2024 View postArticleAug 28, 2024Public 0 0I fought my friend - Life Size Rock'em Sock'em Robots Part 4Over the last several months, I've been building my own version of the classic toy Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. Because I like to overcomplicate and overengineer everything I do, I decided to make mine life-size and controlled by pneumatic cylinders connected to an air compressor. I invited my friend Will over because this game requires two people to play. Before we can have our fighting robot face-off, there are a few things that I need to finish first.ImageJun 19, 2024Public 0 0There's more than one way to skin a robot!I'm making a version of the classic toy Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots, but my version is life-sized! I'm using an air compressor to drive pneumatic cylinders for the punching arms. I'm also including some electronics that will detect the punches and keep track of who's winning. In part 3 I build the second robot frame and run into all sorts of problems when I go to put the skin on both robots.ImageMar 13, 2024Public 0 0Life Size Rock'em Sock'em Robots Part 2I am building a life size version of Rock'em Sock'em Robots, and I'm using pneumatic cylinders to make the arms and head move. In this video I print the arm and head pieces and secure them to the robot. Everything was going smooth until I jinxed it by saying that out loud. Fortunately I was able to solve all the problems that came up and by the end I demonstrate what this robot can do for the first time.VideoOct 20, 2023Public 0 0New video coming later this week!Oct 17, 2023VideoOct 17, 2023$2 tier & up 2 1Life Sized Rock'em Sock'em Robots Part 1I have used pneumatic cylinders in past projects, so they were the perfect choice to use when I decided to build a life sized version of a toy from my childhood. In this video I prototyped the punching arm mechanism and tested it out by connecting it to the air compressor.VideoSep 30, 2023Public 0 1Star Wars Scomp USB PortThere's a really cool thing in Star Wars called a scomp link. It's basically a computer terminal built for droids so that they can access data. I thought it would be really cool to build one of these scomp links and even make the center rotate like it does in the movies. But to make it even more interesting, I want it to be a functioning USB port for my computer. May the 4th be with you!ArticleMay 2, 2023Public 0 0
