$9/moA Sister-in-FlightHiddenIn "The Book of Sojourners" (Rootwork Journal, Volume Two, Issue One), we are immersed in the life of a Black teenage girl named Safiya. Safiya yearns to escape her Aunt's strict religious household so she can find community members with whom she can freely be trans. But, the outside world is fraught with disease, riots, floods, and apocalyptic chaos. In the midst of it all, her brother Malcolm keeps encouraging her to find hope in these conspiracy theories and fables, especially stories about magic and flight. But Safiya is a skeptic and wants nothing more than absolute freedom over herself and her life. For this tier, we revisit how myths about flying Africans relate to trans Black struggle using poetry, parables. and short reflections. These poems are from the mind of Safiya's missing older cousin Sasha. Black TMA ppl who subscribe to this tier will also be given access to theoretical writing on Black transfeminism. Note: the dollar amount above is a gently requested minimum pledge. If possible, any non-TMA, non-Black, non-darkskinned, and non-cis and non-disabled accomplices pledge above the minimum if possible.
$20/moUndulatrix: a Speculative LanguageHiddenIn "Flows 'n' Figurations: Reflections on a Green Afrofuturist Project" (Push/Pull, issue 14) Afroturism meets Black radical ecology through a journey into the lexicon of the Undulatrix, a speculative language. The Undulatrix originates with all life, in the Sea, but finds itself in land and the air as living beings leave the Ocean, hoping to turn the empty world into a breathable one, and eventually bring water, thus life to their long lost cousins, the stars, who are thirsty and will lose their fires if a connection isn't established. A central part of bridging that gap and bringing water to the cosmos is the use of the Undulatrix itself, to invoke reality, unite reality, and create a healthy environment with a fertile ecosystem before eventually sending life into the Outer Depths. For this tier, you'll learn about words in this invented language and get a deeper look into Undulatric cosmology. The language includes an imaginative writing system, so there's visuals for this tier as well!Note: the dollar amount above is a gently requested minimum pledge. If possible, any non-Black, non-darkskinned, and non-cis and non-disabled accomplices pledge above the minimum if possible
$32/moThe Color Line has Gender ThreadsHiddenIn "Dispatches from Among the Damned: On the History and Present of Trans* Survival" (Pinko Magazine) I connect contemporary transantagonism to Black struggle, arguing that a backlash against queer/trans leadership within abolitionist and anti-racist struggle is fueling contemporary fascism. Summed up in the idea that "the color line has gendered threads," this tier focuses in the theoretical works I primarily draw from in my understanding of transfeminism and of materialism.Note: the dollar amount above is a gently requested minimum pledge. If possible, any non-Black, non-darkskinned, and non-cis and non-disabled accomplices pledge above the minimum if possible
