Please read on to learn more about why we need you and how you can help.Why a Tractor?The sanctuary has operated for 3 years without a tractor and has now grown to the point where that is no longer sustainable. The amount of water*, bedding, hay, manure and other material that needs to be transported around the farm far exceeds the physical capabilities of the sanctuary’s founders and main labourers, Steve and Yvette. There also aren’t enough hours in the day to complete these tasks by hand.*In the winter we carry 2 buckets of water by hand from the house hose to fill the duck pools every morning, taking anywhere from 10-15 trips. A tractor would enable us to haul large containers of water quickly and efficiently.A tractor is also needed to scrape or turn over, level and top up (with fresh gravel, shavings or sand) the top layer of the ground in the animals’ outdoor habitats every few months in order to maintain a clean and safe environment. This promotes health & longevity, and decreases the risk of parasite and disease transmission.In addition to these regular chores, a tractor is needed facilitate many of the small building and repair projects that are necessary to house our growing number of animal residents.
