$2/moFellow PilgrimHiddenWe are traveling together, and I am grateful for that in itself. When pilgrims join each other's journeys, they are sometimes moved to share food or basic supplies. This is where we are, my friend. I treasure you and your good heart, and I am delighted to share this meal with you.
$5/moMary of MagdalaHiddenIn every tent group there's that person with quiet wisdom who always knows how to set up camp. She doesn't say much about it, just starts pulling out gear from her pack as soon as the day's hike is done. In Scriptural terms, this is clearly a Mary, whether of Bethany or Magdala. However, in honor of her exceptional "silent" witness (was she really, or did it just not get written down?) at the foot of the nearly abandoned Cross, I'm naming this one for Mary Magdalene. I feel sure she provided some of the fish the disciples ate on the road, having grown up in a fishing village, even though the nets we hear about are mostly Andrew's. She probably sat quietly in the boat pointing out where all the good catches were.
$10/moTravel Guide (St. Peter)HiddenWhen any group gathers, someone always emerges as the trusted advisor who can fix the gear when it breaks down, translate from the local language, or see through the swirling windstorm to find the next steps on our way. You are that leader, dear friend. I appreciate the unique-- and necessary!-- gifts you've brought with you on this journey. Meanwhile, I hope you will settle in and enjoy your own opportunity to grow and pray and learn with us.
$20/moJoseph of ArimatheaHiddenAccording to myth (and that is where we live), as Jesus was being taken down from the Cross, a traveler captured a little vial of his blood, and rode off with it in his satchel. (It is said to be kept safe in the hollow of Glastonbury's Chalice Well, above.) This kind of inspiration, and the willingness to act on it, is essential in a traveling companion. Thank you for bringing your many gifts and insights with you, and sharing them with your companions! With the creation of this new tier, I am introducing an exciting new segment called "The Backstory"-- not mine, but the text's. In these, we will look at the historical emergence of the text of the day: What was its original context? And how has it been used by groups of people since then? In addition, supporters at this level will gain access to Cute Little Merch, and the ever popular Word Nerdery.
$30/moLydia of PhilippiHiddenThe early Jesus movement would never have survived without the people with greater means-- the dyers of purple linens, the inheritors of good land-- who believed in the message enough to invest in it and support their less fortunate fellow pilgrims. Thank heaven, dear friend, this is you. While we all walk this way together, seeking a Truth-Light none of us can fathom, it is your quiet smile that conceals the source of our daily bread. Behind the scenes all along, you've been working your connections with hosts along our way, helping us get to where we're going with some shelter and protection from the dangers of travel. Thank you for your help and goodwill, for your faith in this work, and for your prayerful company.
