There's also plenty of folks who aggravate the heck out of us, who we might even think of as villains. It's easy to write about the "good guys" and much harder to figure out what makes "bad guys" do the hurtful things they do. Real life is full of "good guys" who make spur of the moment decisions that have horrendous consequences. They also have well-thought out plans that go badly awry. Plenty of "bad guys" turn out to be heros (Remember Severus Snape?). Welcome to the world of "Character Development". I'll send you profiles and updates of characters as they reveal themselves to me. You get to weigh in on how you feel about them and maybe even make useful suggestions about what makes them tick.
$10/moHeroic SupportHiddenLots of sci-fi stories fall into the genre of "dystopian novels". I don't want to go there and I'm depending on you to help me out here. We have to deal with climate change, resource depletion, social unrest and we have plenty of science to guide us. On the other hand, we can't just blow up the planet, or sit patiently by hoping Jesus, aliens, or some tech genius will save us. I'm begging you to roll up your sleeves and get into the nitty-gritty here!
I've invited you along because writing can be lonely work.Sometimes characters get themselves in a jam and authors have difficulty figuring out where to go. My great-grandfather, John R. Coryell, created Nick Carter in the early years of the 20th century. Sometimes he asked my great-grandmother, Abby Coryell to help him figure out what to do next. We have no idea if he followed her advice. I won't promise to follow your ideas either, but if your ideas help my characters out of a jam, you can be sure I'll mention it in the Acknowledgments page.
