My favorite snowflakes from 1.14.26January 16 View post If you follow me on facebook, these are my favorite snowflakes that fell on 1.14.26 here in the interior of Alaska. I shared 10 yesterday (1.15), and am sharing another 10 today (1.16) on facebook and these are my favorites 10 selected from both days. And if you are seeing this soon after it posts it may give you a preview of some that I'm posting on facebook early.ArticleJanuary 16Public 0 0The "Not Quite" files I keepJanuary 7 View post I share a lot of photos of snowflakes on facebook, but there are a lot more that never get posted. Yesterday for example I took around 300 photos of snowflakes. Of those I selected out and edited about 70. Of those I chose about 40 that I liked enough to post or consider posting. The rest go into a "not quite" file. These are the "not quite". A couple look similar to ones I posted today, but are doubles that differ slightly and are the one of the pair I discarded. A majority of the photos I take are never seen except by me. This year I'm going to try and share a few more of those here. Sometimes I like them because they are unique but don't quArticleJanuary 7Public 0 0My personal favorite images for each month in 2025January 2 View post I sorted through my images over the last few days and selected out my favorite image from each month in 2025. These are the 12 images I chose. In some months I probably had a couple images that could have pushed out a few of the ones from other months, but I wanted to showcase the seasonality of my photography and not just the best images for the whole year which might be skewed to a few months depending on luck, light, and time. These are in order of the month they were take starting with Ptarmigan in January and ending with a raven in December. There are several squirrels at the gardens. They tend to have very distinct territories. When I first spotted this guy he/she was sitting in a tree at the Northeast part of the gardens in some tall trees. Next thing I knew there was a second squirrel that came racing up and then both were off chasing each other around the gardens, leaping and covering several feet with each jump, up the trunks of trees, then hopping off, zooming past my feet, totally ignoring me, and around and around. This must have gone on for 5 minutes before the second squirrel ran off to it's own tree.ArticleOct 8, 2024Public 0 2Microscopic ice crystalsOct 3, 2024ArticleOct 3, 2024Public 0 2FallI was photographing the dry seed pods of this flower and did not notice the tiny insect until after I zoomed in. It is I think a male mosquito which don't bite. Males have the feathery antennae if I remember correctly. The background is a red maple tree at the UAF botanical gardens on 9.26.24. I had this vertical image as well as a horizontal image of this same flower and insect. I chose the horizontal one to share on facebook and this vertical one for here on Patreon.ImageSep 27, 2024Public 0 1Beaver on the Chena riverView post Yesterday evening I went down to check on the beaver lodge on the Chena river by the community gardens. The beavers have been very active as evidenced by the work to improve and add to the top and front of the lodge. Despite this I've not seen them very much. They are mostly nocturnal and only really come out in the evening and early morning. In the summer this is problematic as they are rarely out before midnight. This time of year with sunrise and sunset at reasonable times, your chances of seeing them is greatly improved. This was the only one out yesterday although at times I've seen as many as six. The lodge is HUGE! And this guy was not super big. I suspect it is one of theArticleYesterday at Aug 18 crawlPublic 0 0Behind the Scenes - The rejectsThe majority of the snowflakes I photograph never make it out of my files.
