$3/moEarlier and More Unleashed! When we're editing an episode of Audio Unleashed, we often struggle with what to cut to get it down to a palatable (for the public), 45-to-60 minutes. To be honest, some of what we trim wouldn't be of much interest to the average listener. But you, dear Patron, aren't average, are you? You want it all and you want it now. Speaking of now, although we release new episodes every other Wednesday, they're generally in the can and ready to go anywhere between one to six days before release day. As a thank you for supporting us, Patrons get not only an uncut extended episode (maybe 5 or 10 minutes longer, maybe half an hour longer) but you get it as soon as it's rendered and approved by both of us.

This week, Dennis and Brent get the party started by pondering the deep question of whether or not a “loom” of anything is automatically sus. Next up, they split hairs over the distinction between a clone and an homage by way of Erin’s Audio Corner’s new video about a Chinese McIntosh knock-off. Then they wrap up the main show by answering a listener’s question about Darko.

Uncut! This week, Dennis and Brent take a surface-level dive into the biggest controversy to hit the pro-audio world this year: Jim Lill’s exhaustive investigation of the source of a mic preamp’s tone, or lack thereof. They also slog through maybe half a percent of the response videos in the quest for one that has more to say than “trust me, bro.” They wrap up with an attempt to give veteran Stereophile technical editor John Atkinson the tribute he deserved upon the announcement of his retirement.VideoJuly 2$3 tier & up 3 4Join to unlock 6 7 Share Gift LockedNo public preview was captured for this post.Article9d ago$3 tier & up 0 7Audio Unleashed... Uncut! This week, Brent and Dennis are just asking questions. Questions such as: Do VU meters really make everything sound better? (Obviously, yes.) Can you do science if you don’t even understand science? (Probably not on purpose!) If our music is going to be made by taste-making hacks using AI, does hi-fi even matter anymore?
