Image Latest postPublicI'm in the news, and I didn't have to do anything terrible to get there!

My work was specifically mentioned and discussed on the Channel 9 and 10 News feature "Hometown Tourist". You can watch the feature above :) Please share it (there is a post on my Facebook page "Art by Justin David Gustafson" that can be easily shared).

Latest progress on Current CommissionAbsolutely love how this charming little piece is coming along! Every session has been recorded and when complete that footage will become my first, of many, time lapse video showing a painting come into existence from beginning to end!VideoToday at Aug 25 crawlPublic 0 0Just For Fun!A while back I was interviewed by Erin Williams for NPR. I was chosen as the artist of the month for their Arts and More Program. The kids loved it and they all did very well. You can see their work above. Two students want to work on their paintings more next week and the other two are bringing in their own images to paint. It turned out to be much easier than I expected and I over-prepared significantly, but it went very smoothly. Starting in May I plan to start teaching an adult class, painting landscapes in oils. Contact the Ludington Area Center for the Arts if you are interested, space is limited :)ArticleApr 9, 2018Public 0 0Pressentation from Art Hop in KalamazooThis is a presentation that I gave at the Park Trades Center in Kalamazoo, MI during the March 2017 Art Hop. Despite being very nervous everyone that has seen this said they enjoyed it (without me asking them, or even telling them about it, they each found it on their own). It'll give you a little insight into my process.ImageMar 31, 2018Public 0 0March 21 ProgressNext month I'll be revamping my website, allowing for the sale of giclee' reproductions of every painting, directly from the site. It's pronounced "Zhee-Clay", it's a fancy french word for ink jet, they are the pinnacle of quality in the realm of fine art reproductions. I've been waiting until I deliver a commission in early April, as I need the money to make this happen.ImageMarch 21Public 0 0This is Only a Test !Mar 9, 2018 View post HI everybody! So I have a prototype video made. . .. I can't stress enough that this is an unfinished project and a very rough cut. The color changes a couple of times as I have been playing with camera settings and the like. The music was randomly selected. . . which is kind of an oxymoron, being that "selection" implies some sort of criteria. Anyway, much has been learned and I'm about to start a bunch of new paintings so I'll have some complete creation process videos within a few months. May post some footage of me finishing the current gross of paintings. I'm disappointed in the quality of the picture when in full screen mode, all of this fooArticleMar 9, 2018Public 0 2After Time Has Passed Away 16 x 12 oil on aluminumThe piece above is currently on display at Art by Mary Case Gallery, at 329 East Dowland street in Ludington, MI. If allowed to focus entirely on painting, rather than spending energy "hustling" for funding, just imagine what (and how much more) I could produce!ImageMar 4, 2018Public 0 0Still Working on Videos!Mar 3, 2018 View post Sorry it's been a little while since I've posted anything. I've been filming myself painting and I have a lot of footage, some of it is usable. I've had to modify my camera mounts (I can't find tripods that are tall enough!) because my original idea slowly panned down and by the time I was finished working on the piece in question, said piece was no longer in view. Too many attempts to fix that before I devised a superior method which is working well. It's been a very steep learning curve, thank you all for bearing with me. Next step is going to be another steep learning curve as I begin teaching myself how to use the editing software that I haVideoMar 3, 2018Public 0 0Happy Panultimate Week of February! It's been more involved then I expected, but I'm figuring out how to take good videos. I'm practicing on some paintings that are already half way finished. Once I dial it in I'm going to start some new paintings so that I can record them coming into being from start to finish. I'll also post some of my practice footage once I finish editing it all together. You see I also need to practice with the editing software.VideoFeb 19, 2018Public 0 0
