It means preparing for the inevitable flare that will be triggered by the weather. Up or down, hot or cold, rain, shine or snow - ANY TIME there is a sudden change in the weather, our bodies feel it. And we know the pain doesn't start day of - oh no. We can feel the snowball barreling down hill for at least 24-48 hours before it even hits. We are THAT sensitive to weather changes. For me, when I saw the 30° drop coming in the forecast, my prep work started. I made sure to get groceries and take care of basic chores. But when something disastrous happens, and all you can do is keep managing your own symptoms, it can feel like you aren't even a part of the world anymore. Like the world is happening around you while you just try to exist. As chronically ill people, we can't put our symptoms aside just because the world is on fire - we have to keep fighting our fight. I just got my 3rd denial in 8 months. 30 seconds of sun exposure would put me in the hospital - a minute would probably kill me - but in the eyes of the government I am a 36 year old with a bachelor's degree. I should be working. I genuinely think they make it this difficult because they want people to give up. I mean, if it was really about helping people, they would be calling applicates to ask for forms - not denying them because they never got the forms they never asked for.
