I've actually had the basic idea for this song for over two months now, but never got around to writing it down until now. I hit on quite a nice bass/rhythm line using a combination of timpani, bass, and lowered reverb.

Day in the LifeNov 19, 2025 View post Even though I don't take music lessons anymore, I notice my work continues to become better and better. When I listen to songs from five years ago, they sound like the obvious product of a student (with perhaps one or two exceptions). Even from a couple years ago there's more misses than hits. But recently I've been putting out some nearly professional-sounding song, and this one specifically I don't think I'd blink at if I heard it as part of a movie soundtrack. It would have been nice if this talent came out earler while I was actually trying to make music a career!ArticleNov 19, 2025Public 0 0ShimmeringI looked at my previous few compositions and I was surprised to see how long they were. 8:00, 8:47, 7:45 and 11:26 for four songs in a row is wild given I normally aim for 5-6 minutes (my favorite length for songs I listen to). I suppose sometimes I start writing and I just can't stop; I'm making more of an effort to condense my songs into immediately enjoyable experiences though.AudioAug 31, 2025Public 0 0Dematerialize - for chamber orchestraThis piece is sparsely orchestrated as a bit of a challenge to myself - I wanted it to be focused on two pianos and not be swelling with orchestral sounds like so many of my previous songs have. Once again, it ends in a different key than it starts in. It seems to be a bit of a pattern.ImageMay 24, 2025Public 0 0Be Still My Heart - for orchestraThe shift from Bflat to Aflat right at the end of the piece flies in the face of conventional music writing. However, it sounds nice and prolonging the song too much more would make it drag (it's already almost 9 minutes long!) I think the lack of tonal change helps it feel natural too.ImageJan 22, 2025Public 0 0From The DepthsDedicated to Thomas Goss. Guitar, bass, violin, horn, celesta, drums, and often organs show up almost every single time. They do a good job creating the type of sound I want them to, but I think for next piece I'm going to shake things up a little bit with probably more brass and winds. Should be fun.ArticleJun 19, 2024Public 0 0Last Knight of GileadThe idea for the title and premise of the song was somewhat inspired by Stephen King's "The Dark Tower", which features "the last gunslinger" of a fictional land named Gilead.ArticleMar 31, 2024Public 0 0The Oasis - for chamber orchestraLife is getting a bit busy but I will nonetheless do my very best to continue improving at music and keep putting the songs in my head down to paper (well, music software, but you get the point).ArticleJan 31, 2024Public 0 0Archangel - for chamber orchestraI sat down and started writing... and kept going, and going, and going. 8:45 is probably the most powerful and satisfying climax I have writ...AudioDec 31, 2023$5 tier & up 0 0Avalanche - for orchestral bandI had a great time writing this song, hope you guys like it too!ArticleNov 29, 2023Public 0 2
