Article Latest post$1 tier & upRolling Stones - Route 66 in Airwindows Meter

For $10 and up patrons, here's a REAL blast from the past. Rolling Stones from the first album! I've tried to pick something that really shows the groove and sound of the band and the way they move together. I've got a lot of mid-seventies Stones not to be missed, but this really has its own thing going on. This sound set clubs on FIRE back in the day, when this genre was being invented...

Beastie Boys - Get It Together in Airwindows MeterAugust 9 For my $10 and up patrons, here's something of a departure! I'm not properly a hiphop guy, but this is the real deal, it even has Q-Tip on it. I wanted to show what this genre can do sonically, and point out how especially the authority meter puts on a real show. I have a theory that it's the most important part (may end up rearranging the positions of the meters with Authority on top) and on this track, the aspect of 'colors of the zerocross dots are totally scattered and can be anything at any position' is really, really high, so I thought I'd make it a Meter example video. There's much to learn from :)... I'm also trying to explain the changes in Meter: tldw, there's the Tone Color stripe that now also can dynamically change the color of the WHOLE meter and also ConsoleX3 can do that too, and ConsoleX3 defaults to drawing Loud and Detail/slew meters over each other and can be shrunk down to just a tiny color reference, and Tone Color now matches the colors of the dots, full stop. So, blue means loud, green means bass, red means bright, and balancing them is the goal :) (UMG has blocked the video in Russia and Belarus)... Talking about how to work with Meter and balance aspects of the sound. It's good to be back with these after the week of nonstop Meter hacking :)...ArticleJuly 11$1 tier & up 0 0Pink Floyd - The Gold It's In The… in Airwindows Meter, turns outFor $10 and up patrons, this one's interesting to me because it's a heavy rock track off Obscured By Clouds, meaning it's like a practice run for Dark Side of the Moon! I think that really shows. Things like the guitar sound are a clear signpost forward, drums are handled similarly, the sense of weight is there… and that ellipsis is in the actual name :)ArticleJune 27$1 tier & up 0 0Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way in Airwindows MeterFor $10 and up patrons, it's Joe Walsh this week, and a 1973 track that inspired the acquisition by the Eagles of engineer Bill Szymczyk. It's a snapshot of late-70s tone at the time the Eagles were doing 'Desperado' and Pink Floyd were doing Dark Side Of The Moon. Later, the Eagles would snap up Joe Walsh, too!...ArticleJune 20$1 tier & up 0 0Eric Clapton - Willie And The Hand Jive in Airwindows MeterFor $10 and up patrons, here's something out of Criteria Studios in the early 70s: Eric Clapton covering Johnny Otis's 'Willie And The Hand Jive'! This is such an interesting combination of super mellow and tightly wound. It's a tense tempo but a relaxed mix, and the whole thing is just ultimate 70s through an ultimate early MCI console, out of the birthplace of the MCI sound...ArticleJune 13$1 tier & up 0 0Burial - Pirates in Airwindows MeterFor $10 and up patrons, something quite a bit more modern: Burial! This is a good example of the vibe and the use of subs and bright sounds. Sometimes you don't want to sound like 1971, or 1968 and a REDD console. This is a modern genre, being invented as this album was made. It's also fundamentally digital, so you can buy the 'original pressing' just as it was, on https://burial.bandcamp.com/ and I did just that :)...ArticleJune 7$1 tier & up 0 0Lipps Inc - Funkytown in Airwindows MeterFor $10 and up patrons this week, one of the ultimate biggest hits ever: Funkytown! Which just continues to suggest that the sweet spot for megahit Meter scores is not AA so much as it's like BB… or like AD to BC. Hotter and it's fatiguing, mellower than BC and it's too chill. Mileage may vary. Funkytown's BB, like Purple Rain, Shoot To Thrill, and a flat-out astonishing range of other hit records...ArticleMay 30$1 tier & up 0 0ZZTop - Gimme All Your Lovin' inn Airwindows MeterFor $10 and up patrons, the lead single off Eliminator. If you just go by the video and what you think you're hearing, you can almost believe it's a rock band, when in fact Eliminator is a wild studio experiment owing more to techno… but in 1983! Also check out the blue peak dots on drum hits: incredibly well sculpted production on this one :)...VideoMay 23$1 tier & up 0 0
