First we will convert a colorful tube into a cane by inserting a rod inside and sucking out all the air as we fuse them together. Next we will take a short tube with a heavy wall and rework it on the lathe to get exactly the size we need. Both of these projects are prep work for a new FRANCINE marble machine and you will also see how they are used in additional steps to make components for the machine...

The marbles I had made to run in the machine showed some compatibility issues due to an encased sparkly color. You'll learn about that in this post, and see me make replacement marbles of consistent size. You'll get a good look at FRANCINE #7 in action, too. I had a sample section of one of my spheres coated, and the results are pretty cool. I then tried molesting the glass as if I had to do a repair or otherwise modify it. ... This link is to the exhibition's virtual catalog. I think they did a great job! In fact, they sold my piece that is in this catalog and I have to bring another when I go down for the show tomorrow.
