Ep. 51 - Tom's Harbor Keys and the First Storm of Hurricane Season 2020 ~ Big Easy SailingWe settle into a comfortable liveaboard life again at Tom's Harbor Keys. That is until Hurricane Season 2020 starts early and we find ourselves along the very beginning of the path of Tropical Storm Arthur. After all the winds and rain we decide to swim over to the private island until we get visited by two large tarpon. Before we leave the secluded anchorage we face one more storm that almost puts us in the mangroves.ImageDec 20, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 50 - Our First Time Sailing on the Atlantic Ocean ~ Big Easy SailingWe leave the Lower Matecumbe Key and continue heading south through the Florida Keys. We cross over from the Gulf side to the Atlantic Ocean for our first time sailing in the ocean. The winds completely die down and we decide to change our plans and anchor just outside of Long Key State Park for the night before we continue on to Tom's Harbor Keys.ArticleDec 6, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 49 - Sandbar Party with Voodoo ~ Big Easy SailingWe leave the mooring at Lignumvitae Key and make the short jump over to Lower Matecumbe Key, sailing through crystal clear waters. We enjoy a fun day playing with Voodoo at the sandbar at White Marlin Beach.ImageNov 27, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 48 - Mooring at Lignumvitae Key ~ Big Easy SailingWe finally sailed away from Islamorada, but since we had to tack across the whole Barley Basin we changed our plans. We decided to stop at Lignumvitae Key and picked up our first mooring ball for the night. We settled in for the night with some sundowners from our favorite Park Ranger Kim. We had to repair our traveler car block after all the tacking we did before we continued sailing to White Marlin Beach.ArticleNov 14, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 47 - First Sail with Our New SailsNov 8, 2020ArticleNov 8, 2020$3 tier & up 0 0Ep. 46 - Hoisting Our New Sails ~ Big Easy SailingOct 30, 2020ArticleOct 30, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 45 - Saltwater to Freshwater- Our Watermaker Install~ Big Easy SailingYou can't be fully off-grid if you don't have fresh water. To complete our onboard sustainability, we purchased a SeaWater Pro Desalination Water Maker, available locally in southern Florida. We pick up our water maker and install it in the engine room on Gone with the Wind.ArticleOct 24, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 44 - Downtime in Islamorada ~ Big Easy SailingWhile waiting for our new sails to arrive, we spend our time away from the Coral Bay Marina and out in the Little Basin. Getting accustomed to liveaboard life on S/V Gone with the Wind, we spend time like the locals. We acquire new to us stone crab traps. We're given some scuba gear from a local underwater photographer. Jessie drives Putt-Putt solo for the first time ever and does a bit of organizing our dry goods.ImageOct 14, 2020Public 0 4Ep. 43 - Lingering Projects ~ Big Easy SailingAfter losing a piece of hardware overboard, we finally get the replacement piece and can complete the install of our safety lines. Shawn does some troubleshooting and repairs the aft stanchion handrail. We finish off Voodoo's swim step with a removable bracket attached to the transom.ArticleOct 9, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 42 - Problem Solving 101All boats have problems, but how well do you solve them? We tackle several problems by finding solutions that include a new generator, fuel-water separator and a step for Voodoo all in this video. The fun is about to begin, but problems must be solved first.VideoOct 2, 2020Public 0 0Ep. 41- One Step Forward, Two Steps Back ~ Big Easy SailingWe can't wait to share the sailing videos so we are cranking out the rest of our project videos. They'll be short and sweet and weekly! In true Big Easy Sailing fashion, nothing goes as planned. In this video we tackle the tri-light, radio antenna, generator and safety lines. Nothing goes smoothly! C'est la vie.VideoSep 24, 2020Public 0 2
