$3.5/moICE FighterHiddenI personally curate and explain the week's immigration news from dozens of public (and a few private) sources and share a little from my own experience on the ground that week in a punchy, concise, unapologetically-biased weekly email. I'll post previews each week of what's in the email, and then you'll have it each Tuesday. And you'll... read it, I guess? (Or you don't! Either way I'm keeping your $3.50.)
$5/moICE Abolitionist (recommended)HiddenExactly the same as the previous tier, but $1.50 more! (The extra $1.50 will go toward the Deportation Defense Fund described below.) The perfect choice for anyone who wants to read insightful and entertaining immigration commentary, but hates to pay for things in anything but exact dollar amounts. Patrons at this amount will also have access here on Patreon to every issue of DeportNation published since we launched on 7/11/18, no matter when they join.
$50/moICE MelterHiddenAlong with your subscription to the newsletter, you'll be making an anonymous $50 donation to a deserving client in my office who is behind on a payment plan on one of our existing below-market contracts. The money will be 100% DIRECTLY APPLIED to an actual legal fee on an already-existing contract for deportation defense representation and nowhere else. To be clear, this money will not be going to our general office account or used to pay office expenses--just applied directly to the billing account of a client with an existing services contract with our office (all of which are already well below market rates) who we identify as in particular need of financial assistance. (In a way, giving directly toward a client's balance in private law office like ours is a more direct benefit than giving to a legal services non-profit, as you will have the satisfaction of knowing that every dollar you give is going directly to sponsor a particular case, with nothing being used for overhead, marketing, administration, etc.)
$100/mo1-800-ABOLISH-ICEHiddenAlong with the newsletter, you'll be making an anonymous $100 donation to a deserving client in my office who is behind on a payment plan on one of our below-market contracts. Again, the money will be 100% DIRECTLY APPLIED to an actual legal fee on an already-existing contract for deportation defense representation and nowhere else. You'll also be guaranteed one scheduled phone call of up to 15 mins/month to ask questions and/or discuss anything I've written about, consult on a complex immigration law question (or dating advice, PhD thesis review, whatever really--it's your time!), hear my war stories from immigration court, or really anything else at all I can help out with. (I'm willing to roll over unused time into subsequent months, within reason.)
$350/moI'm Not Very Good With Decimal PointsHiddenAre you not totally sure about the difference between $3.50 and $350? This one's for you! As with the tier above, your subscription fee at this level will be applied directly to the balances of deserving clients in our office who are facing deportation. Not just in a general help-us-run-the-office way, but directly to specific billing accounts for asylum seekers, domestic abuse survivors, unaccompanied minors, and other people we wish we could afford to take on pro bono but simply can't after so many years of "low bono" practice. Our monthly payment plans require clients to pay about $300-350 each month toward their flat-fee below-market contracts. Your donation will be DIRECTLY applied to the balance of one outstanding contract in a case of your choice (asylum, unaccompanied minor, domestic abuse survivor, etc.) each month and they will be informed that an anonymous donor has helped them out. We will send you a redacted receipt which shows their billing history and how your payment has reduced the balance.
$500/moHelp Stop a DeportationHiddenIf you are willing to commit at this level, I will personally check in with you to provide a choice between a few possible cases of financially-challenged clients with a strong chance of success. Want to be sure your donation goes to an asylum seeker? A family in deportation proceedings? A domestic abuse survivor seeking a visa? A lawful permanent resident facing deportation for a minor criminal convictions? A minor child facing immigration court alone? We work with all of these, and many more. You are welcome to direct payment to one case, or request that it be spread out among several of one type. Like most people doing this work, we are a private law office (there is generally no non-profit money for deportation defense) and as a matter of principle we do not charge most clients market rates. (In a way, giving directly toward a client's balance in an office like ours is a more direct benefit than giving to a legal services non-profit, as you will have the satisfaction of knowing that every dollar you give is going directly to sponsor a particular case, with nothing being used for overhead, marketing, administration, etc.) We obviously can't share names or identifying details, but I will provide a general summary of the case and let you know about the outcome once it has concluded. You'll also be guaranteed (at your option) one scheduled phone call of up to 45 mins/month to ask questions and/or discuss anything I've written about, consult on a complex immigration law que
$1000/moFund An Entire Deportation Case!HiddenSame as above, but all of the money that you are committing will go toward paying the entire balance in a case of your choice--effectively allowing you, and you alone, to sponsor one deserving person's fight against deportation. Once the balance has been paid, we will agree on another case to apply your donations to and continue to do so sequentially for as long as you are willing to give. At this level, you will also be guaranteed up to 60 minutes scheduled with me on the phone (or a personal meeting if you happen to live in the Boston area) with me each month to discuss the case(s) you are funding, immigration law news/analysis, and anything else at all you want to talk about. To be clear: YOUR ENTIRE DONATION WILL BE APPLIED DIRECTLY 100% TO EXISTING BELOW-MARKET CLIENT AGREEMENTS AND NOTHING ELSE. We will send you a redacted copy of the contract that you are paying toward together with a billing history from our system reflecting your donation. The client will be informed that an anonymous donor has helped them out.
