I don't generally like being very negative about games based on their first hour, but you're going to see some very fundamental reasons why Dawn of Fear isn't ready for prime time. You play as a young man called back to his family's mansion, just in time to get wrapped up in their diabolical machinations, such as making textures not load for seconds at a time when you switch screens.

First Hour: Resident Evil 3 (2020)My most-awaited game of 2020 is finally here, and I'm so excited to share this first hour with you. There's some overlap with the demo, but I'm really excited to see the accelerated opening and the brand new gameplay segment in the electricity substation. Take a look, and share your thoughts in the comments!ArticleApr 3, 2020Public 0 0Song of Horror | First HourMar 9, 2020ArticleMar 9, 2020$2 tier & up 0 0Blair Witch | First HourMar 2, 2020ArticleMar 2, 2020$2 tier & up 0 0First Hour: World of HorrorWorld of Horror is extremely good, you guys. The art style is obviously a huge plus, but the variety of stories and the mechanical harshness of its dungeon crawling make it something I can see myself playing for a long time. Be sure to check it out.ImageFeb 26, 2020Public 0 0First Hour: VisageIt's been a little while since I played a game that actually scared me. Visage makes that happen most of the way through. There's plenty of jank on offer here, but this team knows what they're doing when it comes to building tension.ArticleDec 4, 2019Public 0 0First Hour: ControlThis week's First Hour is about Remedy's Control! I really dig this game, from what I've played, and I hope you enjoy the video.VideoNov 20, 2019Public 0 0Moons of Madness | Hex Crank First HourThis week's First Hour is about Moons of Madness, a first person horror game by Pocket Rock and Funcom. You play as a scientist who gets into a rough situation on Mars. The opening is more slow than I'd like, but there's some promise here.ArticleNov 14, 2019Public 0 0First Hour: Luigi's Mansion 3Luigi's Mansion 3 is a strange choice for this series, but I think it belongs here. By far the spookiest of the Mario spinoff series, Luigi's Mansion has always been about mild scares and fun puzzles. And hey, not everything can/should be Outlast.ArticleNov 6, 2019Public 0 0Layers of Fear 2 | Hex Crank First HourLayers of Fear 2 continues its predecessor's usage of illogical spaces, this time taking place on a boat instead of an artist's mansion. However, the first hour is more of a slow burn than you'd expect.ImageJun 7, 2019Public 0 0Pathologic 2 | Hex Crank First HourPathologic is one of the best games we've covered on Watch Out for Fireballs!, even though it's actively not-fun to play. Pathologic 2, confusingly, is not a sequel to that 2004 game, but a complete remake with modern graphics and tougher mechanics. And it nails the tone and quality of writing, if this first hour is to be believed. I completely geeked out while playing this, so I hope you enjoy it too.ArticleMay 27, 2019Public 0 0Yuppie Psycho | First HourI love Junji Ito. I don't care that he can't end a story, his art is impeccable and he knows how to come up with horrific premises. So I was excited to see Yuppie Psycho, a horror adventure game that cribs from Ito's visual style. You play as a young man who is offered a job that he's not qualified for, at the megacorp that rules his 90s dystopian world. The first hour goes into what he's really there for, and why things at SintraCorp are so bizarre.ImageMay 22, 2019Public 0 0
