The fresher, the better - tissue samples, stomach contents, and all kinds of measurements can contribute to the broader body of science, just freeze it ASAP and get it to an academic research collection!
*If you find dead birds regularly, ask them about being added to their permits.

$8/moWoodpeckers and alliesYou wouldn't expect woodpeckers to hit windows frequently, but they're 7-9% of the window strikes detected at low rise buildings in the Midwest. That's including flickers and sapsuckers. If you throw in Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches, the numbers almost double!

It was a well attended symposium (highest headcount since Covid!) with great topics and presenters.

This week, I had the unique opportunity to film part of a mini documentary with BirdLife International. It did of course include collision monitoring, and bringing an architect along. Filming should wrap in the middle of June, and it is said to be released for International Migratory Bird Day in the fall.
