postThe indigo color is extracted in a paste form similar to Thai indigo shown in my last post. After harvesting the leaves, they are placed in a big container and filled with water. Left for 3-4 days extracting the color, everything is then removed and the water mixed with shell lime powder. Traditionally this process is done by hand with a wooden stirring stick. The mixing can take quite a long time and once the blue bubbles form the goal is to keep going until white. It's a sign that all the color has attached to the shell lime powder. The water is given 24 hours to rest so giving the now indigo-colored shell lime powder time to settle at the bottom.
