Thirst Trap Jesus (2020)Found this. Eventually rewrote it as Louisville from Decoration Day. I wrote this during a power outage, first thing I wrote when I got to Nashville. He was one of my favorite writers and a boon in many ways to his community. You never forget your first friend death. It hits different when someone leaves young. Anyway, I don’t have any wisdom to add to that reality. Hug your homies. We are here for blip. I later recorded this with Justin King and AJ Jump and it was pretty good. We recorded it in Brooklyn and if memory serves me right we used Vampire Weekends bass because they were working on a record there at the same time. And I really think Scott would’ve got a kick out of that.ArticleJun 2, 2024Public 0 0Everything You TouchSomething Brad and me recorded when we were loaded years ago. At one point, me and Mike Finn tried to make a single with The Domestics (was initially for Needle Exchange and a B side for Little Darkness). I don’t actually remember this version but I can tell the drum loop is the same from the demo for Sour Milk (also pulled from Little Darkness- I think both wrongfully). Its a tough song. Too lilting and it sounds soft, too hard and it sounds plain. I probably made 6 or so versions of this and its never sounded right. But this version has some vibe and kinda knocks. Dug deep on the gospel and this was my favorite song. Did my best.ArticleFeb 22, 2024Public 0 0Follow You DownRecorded on a laptop with a free pianos and some Casios. Ended up doing a real version in NYC later for Television Kids. I prefer this one. All heart, no brain. Rest in peace my friend Scott and please forgive the Fugazi rip. kiss emojiImageFeb 16, 2024Public 0 0Simple LifeWrote this song in LA when the Domestics were on the 3rd or 4th west coast tour. I think I'll finish it someday. Just working on some stuff and this popped up. Originally called Fuckboy National Anthem as a joke because all the band boys were partnered up at the time and very much in love.ImageFeb 6, 2024Public 0 0Charlie (2009)Jan 21, 2024 View post I remember walking from downtown to North Eugene in the wee small hour along the train tracks, only tripping a few times in the wet gravel, and breaking into the make-shift studio through a sliding glass door. Bryan must have been at work because I was able to record this before passing out on the couch and no one ever yelled at me about it. I had gal pals in high school that tried to get me into Elliott Smith to no avail but a gift record from a recent ex had me all up in that vibe. Doubling vocals was a real boon for me because my delivery was so chaotic at the time it helped smooth out my cadence. Don’t know why this never made it to a record. I love Christmas songs- specifically dark ones. I was borrowing a Rhodes from a friend and coughed this out in my best Randy Newman impression. I don’t know if it’s good. But I don’t think that is how we rate Christmas songs shrug emoji. Let’s find the light through the cracks. It’s rough out there and I believe in you. Big kisses.ArticleNov 25, 2023Public 0 0
