These larva (or nymphs) live the first part of the dragonfly's life underwater preying on other aquatic insects, worms, and sometimes small fish. When it is time for the larva to become adults, they emerge from the water and find a place to molt. This final molt from the larval form ends in the adult emerging from the old larval exoskeleton. Dragonflies do not have pupa stage so they are considered to go through incomplete metamorphosis.
