Video Latest postPublicUpdate We are Building Again!Well it has been a while since I have put out a video because I have been focusing on our building project. We have approval now to start the addition to our home. It was our plan from the start to begin with a small home and to save up the money to add on without going into debt. We are working hard to get the structure up and dried in before the rain comes. This is more of a problem now because of a series of delays. I hope this video finds you all well.

I found this old rusty Warren Teed adze at a second hand store and bought it with the intention of using it to clear ground and build trails. I originally thought it was a grubbing hoe. After bringing it home and doing a little research I found that this is actually an old wood working tool meant for planing wood beams and the like. While restoring it I found that the blade was in decent condition and sharpened very well to a fine cutting edge. I don't have the proper motion down yet but it makes a fine wood cutting tool. I need a tool for grubbing up roots and clearing trails and this looked like the tool I would need. When I got looking at it I discovered that it is a woodworking adze usually used for shaping beams. I have also learned that people sometimes use this tool for working in the dirt an anyway. I am reaching out to all of you to see if I can get some of your experience to help me make a decision about how I will restore and use this tool. It seems that we are now swimming in a sea of green leaves and blooming flowers. The bees are doing well and the garden is coming up. I guess that means that we are growing a corona virus garden with everyone else. The orchard is also doing well and the various berries are becoming well established. We are gearing up for a good harvest year. Fingers crossed. We are also seeing how the forest management we did in the winter is paying off. I hope you are all doing well out there. For the last couple years we haven't worried to hard about the occasional peck or scratch in the garden as we focused on our fruit trees and perennial plants. This year we feel like the garden has greater importance. I would have liked to save the fence for a time when we have a more permanent garden spot and this hesitancy lead to the adoption of this fence idea that cost nothing except for a handful of nails. In general I have to say that I am surprised at how comfortably we are living off grid. When reading the resources available, I got the vibe that living off grid was a live of compromise and ingenuity. We have found that the newest off grid technology has made off grid living quite comfortable for us. We have made a few adjustments from on grid living. Like doing laundry when the sun is shining or when the generator is running. Or living without and electric toaster.
