$10/moThe Octave2014 Old No. 54 Octave Violin by Gary Bartig. Octave patrons are versatile. The first time I picked up this instrument and strummed it, my head just exploded with ideas. I realized how much more I could do with an octave fiddle: I could accompany myself singing, I could run it through effects pedals, I could loop a percussion track. I could do a bunch more, and that's what Octave patrons get: the music, and a bunch more.

$20/moThe Amplifier1964 Fender Princeton Reverb Amplifier. Purchased from Retrofret, Brooklyn, NY, 2006. I don't own many things I treat like an instrument; this is the exception. You've heard it before, it's the only amp I own and it's all over Songs in Stained Glass, Cosmos in The Chaos and Sweet Octave (the sound of the octave violin through this amp was the centerpiece of that one). You Amps are loud and proud about your support, and you add that little piece of warmth to the music that makes it all taste so good. Tier benefit (along with all lower tiers) Shelter Island: The Limited-Edition, Signed Vinyl - Befitting of the Amplifier tier, this benefit requires some electronics - the warm, sweet kind. This is my first foray into vinyl, and I'm pretty excited because it's my preferred format for listening to music; it helps me to hear the album as it was intended, in sequence, with fewer distractions (no one can text your turntable). Plus, isn’t it nice just to get your hands on a physical piece of art once in a while? I'll ship you a signed copy of the record, likely in the late Fall, once all the tracks have been completed and the pandemic-related delays on manufacturing have eased. And may I suggest a Tandberg 2075 and a pair of AR-3a speakers to go with that?

$50/moThe Electric1956 Gibson ES125T. Purchased at Guitar Center Villa Park, IL, 1998. Proof that beauty can be found most anywhere - like Guitar Center in Villa Park, where this was hanging on the wall. I've used it on every single album I've ever made; in fact, it featured on "Rome", the first track on the first album I ever made. It sounds great unplugged, or plugged into the Princeton. If you're an Electric patron, you've got style and class and you can roll with the highbrows, but sometimes you just like to get noisy and let it all hang out. You're adaptable that way. Tier benefit (along with all lower tiers) Two concert tickets to any performance by Jake Armerding OR affiliated group – this includes Barnstar!, Rosin and the Under The Covers shows at Club Passim in December. Hit me up for a spot on the guest list at least a week beforehand. Use this as many times as you like; it’s unlimited!

$80/moThe Acoustic1943 Gibson J-45, bought from Steve at Retrofret in 2006. This is the world's best acoustic guitar. Other people think they have the best one, but they're wrong, I do. It sounds like a sunrise. Tier benefit (along with all lower tiers): A one-on-one, 90-minute masterclass (either virtual or in-person if local) in one of the following: songwriting composing and arranging for strings recording techniques and microphone placement fiddle music production (acoustic, Americana, bluegrass, classical, folk, singer/songwriter) stage performance

$150/moThe FiddleViolin by Raymond J. Melanson, built 1981, purchased 1990. If my house were burning down, I'd grab one thing: my wife and kids. And then I'd probably run back in and grab my fiddle. This instrument is where it all started for me, the place I come back to when the sky is falling and nothing seems right. It's the best thing in my life that's not a human, and I'm grateful to have it and to play it. And I'm grateful for you, Fiddle Patrons. Tier benefit (along with all lower tiers): Live solo performance at a venue of your choosing, such as your house or local event center. And YOU pick the set list! This is your show, so I want it to be just right. (I respectfully ask that you limit me to three instruments.) Given that this benefit involves some logistics, if you're not within 250 miles of Boston, MA or Minneapolis, MN, we may need to consider arrangements for travel and accommodations. (And you must have a minimum 6-month uncapped membership before request.)
